Software Engineer

About the role

As a Software Engineer at Forward, you’ll build the core product used by private credit funds and brokers to originate, assess, and close deals.

This is a high ownership role in one of the fastest-evolving problem spaces in financial infrastructure. You’ll own problems end to end: understanding the user pain, shaping the solution, implementing it across the stack, and shipping it.

You’ll work closely with the team, but you’ll also be expected to have strong opinions, move fast, and sweat the details that make the product feel considered.

What you’ll work on

Our platform is what turns private credit’s fragmented deal flow into something structured and matchable. You’ll build the systems and experiences that drive it:

• Turning documents into data: Build the pipelines that turn messy borrower materials into clean, structured, trustworthy data
• Mandate matching: Own the engine that routes every deal to the funds most likely to close it
• Product surfaces: Craft the interfaces credit teams live in every day, from deal review to portfolio monitoring
• AI quality: Build the evaluation and observability tooling that keeps our AI accurate and auditable
• Speed: Find and remove the friction that slows funds, brokers, and our own team down

What we’re looking for

• Strong engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping real products to real users
• Comfort working across the stack, and a willingness to pick up whatever the problem requires
• High agency: you find the important work rather than waiting to be assigned it
• Care for craft, especially in areas customers feel

Finance background preferred, but don’t need prior experience in private credit. You do need to be genuinely curious about it.

Location

We work in person in San Francisco or Sydney, and are all passionate about the energy and learning that comes from building together as an early stage team in the same space. You’re welcome to work from home when you need to.
