Credit Engineer

Credit · Full-time · San Francisco/Sydney (in-person)

At Forward, we're building the origination layer for private credit, turning unstructured borrower materials into structured, mandate matched opportunities that funds can assess and act on in minutes.

About the role

Credit Engineer is a hybrid role that sits between underwriting and engineering. You’ll take the judgement a strong credit analyst applies to a deal and encode it into the systems that do it at scale.

You’ll define what “good” looks like for every extraction, credit metric, and mandate match our platform produces, then work alongside engineers to build and evaluate the systems that produce it. When our output is wrong, you’re the person who knows why and what to change.

This role has direct influence over the quality of the product, and direct contact with the funds and brokers who rely on it.

What you’ll do

  • Define what “good” looks like for every extraction, credit metric, and mandate match on the platform
  • Build the evaluation sets that keep our AI output honest
  • Encode fund mandates and credit policy into how deals get matched
  • Pressure test our analysis against how funds actually underwrite
  • Be the person who knows why a number is wrong, and what to change

What we’re looking for

  • Real experience in private credit, leveraged finance, structured finance, commercial lending, or investment banking
  • The ability to read a set of borrower financials and tell us immediately what’s wrong with them
  • Genuine comfort with technical work: SQL, spreadsheets modelled properly, and a willingness to work in code
  • Precision, and the patience to chase down why a number is off

Location

We work in person in San Francisco or Sydney, and are all passionate about the energy and learning that comes from building together as an early stage team in the same space. You’re welcome to work from home when you need to.
